The 2023 edition of EOLE is launched!

The annual conference series EOLE (European & Free Software Law Event) is back for another edition. The programme includes 4 meetings between May and November 2023 to discuss ‘Open Source Compliance through Open and Shared Approaches’ and a final day in December 2023.

The annual EOLE event aims to encourage the dissemination of legal knowledge relating to open licences and the development and promotion of best practice. The initiative was launched in 2008 in response to the needs of practitioners in the field.

This year, the 14th edition of EOLE will take place in an entirely new format: 4 discussion sessions will be organised between May and November 2023 to answer the questions raised by the subject. These meetings will be organised in a hybrid format, combining online and face-to-face sessions via hubs in various European cities (Turin, Paris and Barcelona).

Programme

For the moment, here is an indicative schedule. The exact locations, dates and times will be communicated at a later date:

  • 22 May 2023 from 10.30am to 12pm – Paris – Getting lawyers to work together in an open source compliance approach
  • 28 June 2023 – Barcelona from 3.30pm to 5pm – Open Source Compliance in research and academia: what can they contribute?
  • 22 September 2023 – Turin – Open Source legal compliance and public administrations
  • October 2023 – To be determined, we are open to proposals from anyone interested in hosting a workshop.

Continuity between each online workshop

For this new edition of EOLE, we want to extend the discussion beyond the event. To do this, we’ve set up a forum on Discourse where you can share your projects, comments and ideas. We welcome all feedback!

Each event has its own discussion thread, to make it easier to share links, documentation and information specific to each meeting and theme.

You can already go to our space and start the discussion!

Save the date: first meeting on 22 May in Paris

Inno³ will host the first meeting on 22 May 2023 in Paris. The aim will be to discuss the different ways in which legal staff can work together with an Open Source compliance approach. You can attend this event online by registering at this link. We will send you the videoconference link a few days before the event.

You are invited to join us in person at our offices at 137 boulevard de Magenta in Paris 10e.

The abstract of our first workshop :

This event will focus on the methods and tools used to involve lawyers in Open Source compliance initiatives.

Given the highly technical nature and complexity of such a compliance approach, it is necessary to think globally about new collective solutions. These must be based on cross-functional systems based on automation and traceability of decisions taken. These new collaborative practices need to be questioned, particularly in terms of their compatibility with the current roles of lawyers, both within organisations and within law firms.

These are all issues that need to be reinvented to meet the needs of end-users of Open Source as well as those of legal professionals. The aim of this event will be to raise the above points by illustrating them with concrete situations discussing the subject of Open Source Compliance. Through this empirical and situational approach, we will encourage participants to explore different avenues and to contribute to a roadmap for sharing best practice in the area of compliance.
