Open Source Development Models in Satellite Communications

The OpenSatCom project, of the European Space Agency (ESA), is conducted by the Libre Space Foundation in collaboration with inno³.

This project aims to :

• Evaluate the adequacy of Open Source economic and organizational models, for the telecommunications satellite sector,
• Initiate key strategic contributions to some major Open Source projects in the field.

A first report has been published about “Open Source Development Models in Satellite Communications”.

The second phase includes different subprojects, such as:

• The improvement of constellation management in Orekit and Poliastro
• A survey to study the relationship of European satellite communication actors to Open Source (for software or hardware).
