A survey for ESA's OpenSatCom activity
OpenSatCom is a European Space Agency activity implemented by the Libre Space Foundation in collaboration with Inno³: it aims at assessing the relevance of Open Source business and organizational models for European SatComs and bootstrapping strategical contributions to key Open Source projects of the field. The activity's first part resulted in a report about “Open Source Development Models in Satellite Communications”. Its second part is made up of a variety of subactivities, such as a constellation designer/definition on Orekit/Poliastro and a survey about the relationship between European SatCom ecosystem and Open Source Software/Hardware.
This survey aims at assessing the current adoption of Open Source Software & Hardware by various players in the European SatCom field: industrial, academic and institutional. It will provide insight regarding (1) their maturity level with regards to various Open Source models, (2) their level of involvement with Open Source projects, (3) their relations with specific Open Source structures like foundations, but also their strategy in this space, and their expectation regarding ESA’s position in this domain.
Every player in the European SatCom ecosystem is invited to take part in the survey, be they familiar with Open Source or not. This survey will close on 2021/04/30.
